Rafa Nadal overcomes stomach virus and wins a five-setter over American Tim Smyczek
Rafa did it!
After an excellent first set were Rafa had all the control of the match, winning it 6:2, he felt dizziness and cramps, lost the momentum, struggling on the court, losing the second set 3:6. It was a hard time for our champion, vomiting in between the sets, barely moving… it was hard to watch. He lost the 3 rd set in a TB, the medicament he took didn’t helped him immediately and he was in pains. It was very hot down under, and the humidity was very high so Rafa looked drained.
But, we know that he’s a champion, he’s a GOAT. He managed to pull the 4th and the 5th set, winning the match 6:2 3:6 6:7 6:3 7:5. Very emotional about this win, he didn’t want to be out of the competition because of a virus. He’ll be perfectly fine for the next match against Dudi Sela.
At the end of a fine day’s entertainment on Rod Laver Arena, Smyczek also earned everyone’s appreciation – especially Nadal’s – with a sporting gesture. Some idiot in the crowd shouted out just as Nadal was hitting his first serve, and the ball flew long, but Smyczek insisted that he be given another chance. It was an especially selfless act when you consider that the American was just two points from defeat at the time.
Someone on Twitter said : “If you need a role model, you have Rafa”. He was perfectly right!
Love you Rafa, you’re really One of a kind!
